| Soil and Fertilizer | Fertilizer supports strong root systems, color retention, and overall lawn health. For TifTuf Bermuda, timing and nutrient ratios are important:
Spring Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer once your soil reaches 60–65°F. Suggested ratio: 16-4-8 or similar with micronutrients. Aim for about 0.5 to 0.75 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. Summer Warm weather encourages rapid growth — fertilize every 6–8 weeks. Use a high-nitrogen fertilizer to promote dense turf: 20-5-10 or similar. Total nitrogen for summer should be about 1 to 1.25 pounds per 1,000 sq. ft. split across applications. Fall Apply a final round of fertilizer before dormancy. Choose a fertilizer with lower nitrogen and higher potassium to support winter hardiness. Recommended ratio: 10-10-20 or similar. Winter TifTuf Bermuda goes dormant in cold months; fertilization is generally not needed. If soil tests show nutrient deficiencies, apply corrective amendments in late winter before green-up. |
