TifTuf Bermuda is a hybrid variety of Bermuda grass developed for superior drought tolerance, wear resistance, and deep green color. It’s engineered to use water efficiently while maintaining a thick, lush turf that resists pests and disease. Compared to traditional Bermuda grasses, TifTuf stays greener longer under stress conditions and recovers quickly from damage.
Exceptional drought tolerance: Maintains green color with less water than other turfgrasses. High wear resistance: Great for high-traffic areas like play spaces, patios, and athletic fields. Deep, rich color: Provides a vibrant green lawn that boosts curb appeal. Quick recovery: Rapidly fills in bare spots after stress or wear. Efficient water use: Requires less water to stay healthy and green.
| Disease, Weed and Insect Resistance | While TifTuf Bermuda is dense and competitive against weeds, you may still encounter unwanted grasses or broadleaf weeds. Choose selective herbicides labeled for use on Bermuda grass and apply them according to label instructions. Regular mowing and proper fertilization reduce weed pressure over time. |
| Soil and Fertilizer | Fertilizer supports strong root systems, color retention, and overall lawn health. For TifTuf Bermuda, timing and nutrient ratios are important:
Spring Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer once your soil reaches 60–65°F. Suggested ratio: 16-4-8 or similar with micronutrients. Aim for about 0.5 to 0.75 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. Summer Warm weather encourages rapid growth — fertilize every 6–8 weeks. Use a high-nitrogen fertilizer to promote dense turf: 20-5-10 or similar. Total nitrogen for summer should be about 1 to 1.25 pounds per 1,000 sq. ft. split across applications. Fall Apply a final round of fertilizer before dormancy. Choose a fertilizer with lower nitrogen and higher potassium to support winter hardiness. Recommended ratio: 10-10-20 or similar. Winter TifTuf Bermuda goes dormant in cold months; fertilization is generally not needed. If soil tests show nutrient deficiencies, apply corrective amendments in late winter before green-up. |
| Watering | Proper watering is critical during establishment and ongoing care. TifTuf Bermuda has excellent drought tolerance, but like all turfgrasses, it needs sufficient moisture to grow dense and healthy. |
| Mowing | Mowing & Maintenance Tips
Mow high: Keep TifTuf Bermuda at 1–1.5 inches during summer for ideal turf density. Sharpen blades: Clean, sharp mower blades help reduce stress and tear. Avoid scalping: Cutting too low weakens roots and encourages weeds. Aeration: Aerate compacted soils in late spring or early summer to enhance root growth and water penetration. |
